Why did you join the region committee and what do you do in your role?

I am the NLS Adviser for the Eastern Region.  I joined because I was one of the authors of the new NLS and being part of that training program has been one of my most meaningful experiences in Scouting.  Seeing our Scouts deliver impactful and rigorous training programs over the course of a weekend to hundreds of OA members every year is such a privilege and I could not be prouder of our training team.

Favorite Scouting Memory

I am an Assistant Scoutmaster for a Troop in the Washington, DC area and when we went to Sea Base for Out Island Adventure I was one of the two adults.  While we were fishing our Troop caught so many fish we were able to cook dinner for all of the other Troops on the island at the time.  One of the Scouts in our contingent was so happy and proud he said it was the best day of his life, and being part of that made it one of the best days of my life.

Fun Fact!

I visited five foreign countries in 2024.

Our son is serving our Country as a career military officer in the United States Navy. During his Naval career, he was a pilot flying the F18 Superhornet jet from the flight decks of our Navy's aircraft carriers.  He also served as an instructor at the US Navy's Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun).  Our son's interest in the Navy began while he was in the 10th grade through a Scouting activity in our Troop when he attended the Merit Badge College at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis MD. Scouting provided our son the opportunity and the eventual avenue for his Naval Career.

Fun Fact!

I recently retired from my career as a Structural Engineer in 2021.  My wife and I have a RV camper that we enjoy traveling around our country visiting National Parks and other points of interest.

Why did you join the region committee and what do you do in your role?

I joined the region committee to offer my professional and Scouting experience in a way that supports and empowers future generations of Scouts. Having spent years in leadership roles, I understand the importance of fostering skills and values that can help Scouts thrive. I am passionate about creating opportunities for them to learn, grow, and develop into responsible leaders, just as I did during my own Scouting journey. By collaborating with others on the committee, I aim to ensure the Region continues to provide meaningful experiences that shape character and instill a sense of fellowship.

Favorite Scouting Memory

The 2019 World Scout Jamboree is my favorite Scouting memory because it encapsulated the essence of camaraderie and adventure. Being surrounded by thousands of Scouts from diverse cultures created an atmosphere of unity and excitement. Waking up each day to see Scouts engaging in activities, sharing stories and learning about different traditions was what I’d been planning for 3 years. The experience not only deepened my love for Scouting, but also instilled invaluable life lessons about cooperation and friendship in everyone who attended. It truly was a transformative experience.

Why did you join the region committee and what do you do in your role?

Joining the Eastern Region Committee in the role of Lead Merger Adviser was a natural fit for me, combining my passion for strategic growth and my commitment to the healthcare sector. I’ve always been driven by the opportunity to foster collaboration and innovation within organizations, and this role allows me to directly contribute to shaping the future of our region.  In this capacity, I am excited to guide and support merger activities that strengthen partnerships, drive efficiencies, and ultimately enhance the quality of services we provide. I believe that by bringing together like-minded organizations, we can achieve more impactful results, benefiting both our members and the communities we serve. My experience in operational strategy and resource management gives me the tools to navigate the complexities of mergers, ensuring that our initiatives are sustainable, equitable, and aligned with the region’s long-term vision.

Favorite Scouting Memory

Attending the 2018 West Point Scout Camporee where our Scout troop faced an unforgettable adventure as torrential rain turned the ground into a muddy swamp, leaving us ankle-deep in muck. Despite our tents feeling like water beds, we embraced the chaos with laughter, transforming the dreary conditions into a muddy playground where we organized relay races and cheered each other on. Covered in dirt and grime, we forged stronger bonds through shared laughter and camaraderie, turning a challenging experience into one of the best stories in our troop’s history. Years later, we still recount that muddy adventure, remembering that our spirits and friendships could weather any storm.

Honestly too many to single one out but they all involve staffing some event meeting a new team of people and coming out of the event being able to call the other team members my brothers. This includes supporting lodges with established Admonition Teams, assisting others in creating new teams, and developing strategies to enhance accessibility and inclusivity. Our ultimate goal is to help lodges foster a sense of belonging among their members, providing the support they need as they explore sustaining and growing membership.

Favorite Scouting Memory

Growing up in South Florida, I never pictured myself as a high adventure person. That changed when I had the opportunity to work at Philmont as an OA Foreman. I’ll never forget my first hike to Lover's Leap—it took about an hour because I could barely catch my breath. Just two weeks later, I did the same hike in about 15 minutes. I remember feeling incredibly proud of myself and grateful for the chance to truly appreciate the beauty that Philmont has to offer.

The chairman asked me to use my skills to help advise the region communications team and I happily agreed to serve and give back on a different level of the Order. In my role as region vice chairman for communications I work with our communications coordinator and the rest of the team to tell the story of the Region and share opportunities for Arrowmen via our website, blog, and social media channels. I also help other areas of the region as needed with communication/promotion needs. I had tremendous opportunities and great experiences as a youth in Scouting and the Order. This is my reason I desire to give back to the program as a caring adult leader and support our youth leaders of today so that hopefully they are inspired to be the caring adults of tomorrow.

Favorite Scouting Memory

Far too many to call one a favorite, however a sure joy is watching and supporting my own two sons on their Scouting journeys from Cub Scouts to becoming young leaders in Scouts BSA. My oldest is now an Eagle Scout and fell in love with Philmont Scout Ranch on a trek in 2022 and OATC in 2023 so much he worked staff in 2024. My youngest, Marshall, is soon to be a Life Scout and serves our lodge as an officer and ceremonialist. Watching them grow and learn from the program has been awesome.

Why did you join the region committee and what do you do in your role?

I originally joined a few years ago doing graphic design for the region, and now in my current role as ER communications coordinator I oversee the region's communications department including website, email campaigns, social media, NLS promotions and more. The biggest reason I accepted this position was because the OA gave me such an amazing experience when I was younger and I want to ensure the next generation of Arrowmen continues to have the same great experiences I had.

Favorite Scouting Memory

There's too many to choose just one, but it would have to be either my first NOAC in 2022 or when I completed my Eagle BOR.

Outside of Scouting probably my biggest two hobbies are photography and building things in my workshop. Currently I photograph sporting events for the Clemson newspaper as well as doing wedding and portrait photography on the side.

I started in the registrar role in the former Central Region. I carried on with this role in the Eastern Region to do my part in helping to produce a quality training for our exceptional youth. In this role, I manage registration for region-sponsored events. This includes making sure we do not exceed event capacities; all event attendees are current Scouting America members and those over 18 are current on Youth Protection training. This also includes managing the region email inbox about registration inquiries.

My time as the Communications Coordinator and later Communications Adviser for the former Section C-4A is my favorite memory.
