Service, one of the founding principles of our honored Order, should be on every Arrowman's mind as we start sliding towards summer! Luckily, there is a perfect opportunity for all Arrowmen fourteen years old and up to contribute some meaningful service and enjoy some high adventure all in the same week!
This year, the Central Region is hosting ArrowPower2014. The five day event will run from August 17- 23, 2014 at Phillips Scout Reservation in Haugen, WI. This week long excursion will benefit the National Park Service's St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and the Ice Age Trail network in Wisconsin. To put this colossal undertaking into effect Order of the Arrow Section's C-1A, C-1B, and C-3A have teamed up to make this project a reality!
There will be a variety of water-based and land-based work projects. At the Ice Age Trail, Arrowmen will be working with basalt bedrock to cut new trail, build boardwalk, rock work, and erosion control. At the St Croix Scenic Riverway, crews will paddle down the river with all their supplies in the canoes to the campsite. Campsite projects range from repairing portage trails, including erosion control measures to repairing benches and general site maintenance. Troy Seehafer, Section C1B Chief 2013, remarked that "it's a great taste of national high adventure which is an amazing time, and it's also a great way for you to just be an Arrowman." Becoming part of this adventure is ideal to learning new skills like trail building, which can be used on future OA projects.
In the words of 2013 National Vice Chief Jordan Hughes, "You should make your way up to ArrowPower2014. It's going to be an amazing experience and an awesome opportunity to give great service to the great Midwest."
Get out there and go for it! In order to participate in this exciting project you must be at least 14 years old and meet the high adventure medical requirements. Sign up forms are available at the ArrowPower2014 website.
