The national Order of the Arrow committee is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Josh Sain Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established in 1998 to honor the spirit and the memory of Josh Sain, a former national vice chief of the Order of the Arrow. This scholarship is provided to immediate past national officers (chief, vice chief, or region chief) and, as approved in 2005, immediate past section chiefs, based on exceptional service and scholarship achievement. The recipients for 2013 include the following:
William J. Barton of Larkspur, California. Joe is a member of the Talako Lodge, Marin Council #35, San Rafael, California. He served as the 2012 Western Region Chief and will be attending George Washington University majoring in Political Science. He will be receiving a scholarship of $1500.00.
Samuel A. Bellomy of Tucson, Arizona. Sam is a member of Papago Lodge, Catalina Council #11, Tucson, Arizona. He served as the 2012 Section W-6W Chief and is a Sophomore majoring in Political Science at the University of Arizona. He will be receiving a scholarship of $1000.00.
Francisco X. Gamez of Doral, Florida. Frank is a member of the O-Shot-Caw Lodge, South Florida Council #84, Miami Lakes, Florida. He served as the 2012 Section S-4 Chief and is a Sophomore majoring in Political Science at Florida International University. He will be receiving a scholarship of $1000.00.
David B. Joyner of Mt. Olive, North Carolina. David is a member of the Nayawin Rar Lodge, Tuscarora Council #424, Goldsboro, North Carolina. He served as the 2012 Southern Region Chief and is a Freshman majoring in Political Science at the University of North Carolina. He will be receiving a scholarship of $1500.00.
Christopher A. LaMarche of Gladstone, Michigan. Christopher is a member of the Ag-Im Lodge, Bay-Lakes Council #635, Appleton, Wisconsin. He served as the 2012 Section C-2B Chief and is a Junior majoring in Microbiology at Michigan State University. He will be receiving a scholarship of $1000.00.
Preston H. Marquis of Norfolk, Virginia. Preston is a member of the Blue Heron Lodge, Tidewater Council #596, Virginia Beach, Virginia. He served as the 2012 National Vice Chief and is a Freshman majoring in International Politics at Georgetown University. He will be receiving a scholarship of $1500.00.
John M. Opthoff of Waterford, Michigan. Marty is a member of the Noquet Lodge, Great Lakes Council #272, Detroit, Michigan. He served as the 2012 Central Region Chief and is a Sophomore majoring in Engineering at Michigan State University. He will be receiving a scholarship of $1500.00.
John P. Rhem of Turbotville, Pennsylvania. John is a member of the Woapeu Sisilija Lodge, Susquehanna Council #533, Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He served as the 2012 National Chief and is a Sophomore majoring in Public Relations at Susquehanna University. He will be receiving a scholarship of $1500.00.
