The Goodman Edson Observatory (GEO), the conference museum, has a history of providing high-caliber program for NOAC guests. The GEO will be located in the Willkie Building, and will contain over 12,000 square feet of exhibits. The opening day will be Monday, July 30, 2018, at 1pm, and the GEO will close on Thursday night, August 2, 2018. The GEO will be closed all day Friday, so plan to come early.
People picture exhibits when they think about a museum, but the GEO is much more. A new feature this year for the GEO is an interactive scavenger hunt. The first 1,000 Arrowmen to complete the scavenger hunt will receive a special patch. Stop by the GEO early on during the conference to secure one for yourself! Also new to the GEO is the branding tent, that will be set up just outside the Willkie Building. Get your belt, Nalgene bottle, and other miscellaneous items branded with a special GEO brand!
NOAC delegates can also serve as a GEO docent. Museum docents assist the GEO staff for 2 hours, and in turn receive a special GEO docent armband. Docents are limited to 400 and are first come first serve. Sign up today via the NOAERS site (Activities->General Activities->Special Activities).
The GEO will also offer special trainings, summits, and a series of panel discussions to dive deeper into the rich history of the OA. Experts, whose aim is to increase your appreciation for history, will lead each of these opportunities. We highly encourage you to select GEO trainings, summits, and panel discussions on the NOAERS site (Activities->Training Activities->Special Activities).
A pair of lodge history evaluations rubrics was created for the 2018 NOAC GEO. Participating lodges can be designated as an Achievement, Merit, or Honor Lodge in the categories of History Webpage and Digital Archiving. Find the rubrics and additional information about the evaluations in the Going Digital with Lodge History Initiative Dropbox. Your lodge is highly encouraged to submit one or both of the rubrics to @email by the July 1st deadline.
