Each Arrowman follows a unique path. Some may lead committees while others might become chapter and lodge officers, but all Arrowmen who get involved will make meaningful contributions in a way that is unique to them. However, all Arrowmen must make that first decision to begin showing up and helping. From serving as an elangomat to even simply attending that next lodge event, it is crucial to stay involved in the opportunities the Order of the Arrow has to offer, as this will enable personal and lodge growth.

What if you just got inducted and don’t know how to get involved? Luca is an Arrowmen from Tschitani Lodge in Connecticut who was just inducted earlier this year. Immediately following his induction, he reached out to his lodge chief in search of opportunities within the lodge. He eagerly joined the Trading Post Committee and committed to becoming an elangomat at the upcoming induction. Through exposure to the organization, he built valuable connections and immersed himself in leadership opportunities that he couldn’t have experienced elsewhere. Today, he is the chair of both the Trading Post Committee and the Communications Committee, inspiring other Arrowmen to follow in his steps while making a noticeable effect in his lodge. His journey began with just one email to his lodge chief, expressing interest in helping. This quick and simple action enabled him to build connections, expand his leadership, and find his place in his lodge.

Luca’s journey is just one example of all the trails available to Arrowmen. His effective approach opened numerous opportunities to grow within and beyond the OA. Even though he got involved right away, you can still do so anytime, regardless of how long you have been a member. Attending events and expressing interest are two critical methods to become a leader in your lodge. These not only show you’re interested in helping but also that you can step out of your comfort zone. Becoming a leader in the OA can inspire you to leave an impact on fellow Arrowmen. No matter what position you obtain, you have the opportunity to affect those around you and even motivate them to take on other leadership positions.

The OA provides so many options for Arrowmen to become involved and bond through fellowship. Luca instantly searched for and determined his path, allowing him to find his place in the organization. Your journey will look different, but you should still find and follow it. If you aren't sure where to begin your journey, your lodge and chapter officers can guide you to finding a place where you can make a lasting impact for future Arrowmen.
